Barrow Neurosurgery at the Djenti Health Hospital and St.
Joseph's Medical Center is a world-renowned medical center that supplies people
around the world with diseases, disorders and injuries to the brain and spine.
Michael Lawton, MD, one of the world's largest neurosurgeons, is the president
and CEO of the institute, which conducts neurosurgery more annually than
anywhere in the US. The US News & World Report routinely includes St.
Joseph as one of the country's best hospitals for neurological care and
neurosurgery.

The Barrow Neuroscience department works on thousands of
pages of complex neuroscientific materials that each year lead to hundreds of
scientific publications.
research
Barrow is actively involved in basic clinical and
neuroscience research to help prevent diseases and injuries to the spinal cord,
brain and nerves. The program focuses on transitional medical research that can
be applied directly from the bench to the bed.
Patients have the opportunity to participate in clinical
research studies to obtain the latest therapeutic treatment for a variety of
neurological disorders. Currently, more than 460 clinical trials are conducted
throughout the hospital.
With more clinical discoveries, research at Barrow has
become more specialized. For example, researchers are focusing heavily on
genetics to help identify specific genes for cases such as epilepsy and brain
tumors. This research promises to improve diagnosis and treatment.
Communicate with the community
Since brain and spinal cord injuries are among the most
destructive and avoidable injuries, our mission includes an expanded community
education program dedicated to education and prevention. Each year, Barrow
programs reach thousands of children, adults and health professionals by
supporting educational programs and support groups on a variety of topics. This
includes:
The Stroke Prevention Program offers media presentations and
educational materials to raise awareness of the causes, signs and symptoms of
stroke.
The Enrichment Program for Students, which offers students a
variety of opportunities to participate in and identify with research.
Barrow Connection provides people with physical and
cognitive disabilities with resources for an active life.
The fall prevention program provides an informative
presentation on reducing falls by strengthening knowledge and awareness about
the causes and risk factors of falls, especially in older adults.
Services of a pediatrician
I have Barrow in St. Joseph's children's partnership with
the Phoenix Children's Hospital. The joint program is the second largest
program for pediatric neuroscience in the country, measured by the size of the
patient.
Barrow Neural Foundation
The Barrow Neurological Foundation is a nonprofit
organization that collects research, medical education, and clinical program
donations from the Barrow Neurological Institute. For information on how to
contribute to Barrow, visit www.SupportBarrow.org or contact the Foundation
Office at (602) 406-3041. Gifts to the Barrow Foundation are tax-free as
provided in 501 (c) (3) of the Federal Tax Code.
